We had our first rain of the season on Saturday and it was so peaceful staying in doors curled up on the couch in front of a blazing fire.
It’s not often we get to enjoy a fire in this little cottage of ours because of the old shake roof that’s very brittle and dry. Several years back an entire neighborhood with shake roofs went up in flames and they’ve been outlawed since.
During the winter months I like to add deeper colors to my decor….red velvets and chocolate browns mixed with white lace. It somehow adds to the winteriness of the season.
Hubby’s having a Christmas party at work so I made one of my famous Chocolate cheese cakes…only it flopped! I’ve never had a cheese cake do this to me! Never! Growing up I wanted to become one of Mrs. Claus’s elfs so I could work in the bakery at the North Pole and I’m thinking this would never do on a resume..."cheesecake mutilator." Could you imagine?
The clouds have blown away the rain and our skies are clear again. How's the veiw from where you are?

Hi Cori! I'm so glad you will be able to use that picture of Avery...I would love to see how it turns out! We're thankful for our sweet girl. She is a blessing and an answer to prayer. Your blog is beautiful...I love the cozy pics of your cottage!! God bless you!

Cori...you only get to use your fireplace when it RAINS then ? ALWAYS love a fire in the fireplace, but we have a gas one now..and my gut tells me not to trust it. ( Just me )
So we don't use it.
Sorry about your cake..hope it was salvaged somehow.

Our chocolate cheesecake recipe has a chocolate whipping cream frosting...that would have helped some with your little flop. This morning it is -4 degrees here!
So comfy cozy at your house Cori G! Love the dark tones you added in. I'm glad your roof got wet enough for a fire in the fireplace...
It's still pretty dark here right now so I don't know what the skies hold for us today...
Good morning Ladies,
Michelle, I can't thank you enough for letting me use the picture of Avery. She is such a darling sweet girl. When I'm finished with the flier I can send you one for her scrap book ;-).
Rose, it's sad but true! Only when it rains. Ours is gas too, but we don't use the gas to light it or keep it lit.
Pam, I could have used your frosting recipe. Hubby took it to work anyway and says the guys he works with will eat anything, ha ha!
Ellen B., I hope your skies clear soon and if not that's OK too. EVer since hubby and I went to Canada I've been missing your weather ;-(.
I hope you all have a lovely day!
God bless.
How great it all looks! Very cozy indeed!!
Hugs,Lisa
Oh Cori, your home is other-worldly, in another time. I simply adore it. Hubby in his flannel PJ's is so adorable and cuddly looking! The cake looks good to me! It would only be bad if it SUNK...this one is just bursting with flavor! **blows merry kisses** Deb
We did the same thing on Saturday. But our fireplace is gas and we have tile roofs for that very reason- fire. Our skies are still cloudy and fog in the morning, but wintry goodness all together. I've been staying in, sipping tea, taking care of Bella...she ate her dogfood yesterday and it stayed in her! She seems like she's feeling better, but sleeping alot. I'm praying and believing for healing because we cannot afford to take her to the Vet. Hubby just got a paycut(of half)this month, it was that or lay off, and so he is having to look for another job. We can not live off of half. We are not stressed and trusting in God as our provider.
I have had this happen plenty of times...I just put something on top to cover it up! Usually on regular cheesecake - a can of blueberry pie filling - maybe on chocolate- some heavy whipping cream would work...and cherries and ...and...
Stunning fireplace gooooodnessss!!! xoxo
Cori I've always wanted a fireplace! I have a fake one with a fake electric fire...it's jsut fake..lol
Did you use a water bath when you made your cheesecake? That helps prevent cracking and also letting it cool slowly. I use a can of cherries and place that on top if my cheesecake cracks. :-)
