Happy first day of Spring!

When the moon comes out to shine her face
the birds are fast asleep
And the lanterns hang from every post
the faeries leave their keep

They join their hands and sing their songs
that nary a soul can hear
In the springtime when the earth is new
to the faeries they draw near

Lyrics: Loreena Mckennitt

The "OTHER" Roof Line

Hello,
Do you remember a few posts back when I was telling you about our visit to Long Beach and the other cottage with the roof? Well, here it is...drum roll paleese!!!

Hubby made me get out of the car and walk around this lovely little place to take pictures. I'll admit I was less then enthusiastic! I've driven by this dwelling many times, but it just doesn't appeal to me and I couldn't figure out why until now.

There are no eves or fascia boards and the roof section above the octagonal rooms have no roof.
Shouldn't they have lovely witches caps? I think so too. And that roof line is just plain wonky! And then there's the Indian motif...what's that all about?!

I spent several years in community college and most of the classes I took revolved around architecture and design so I consider myself to be an official "Architectural Police Woman" and this house definitely needs a ticket!! OK, I'm sure there are some of you that are enamored with this charming little Victorian at this very moment and that's OK...you are entitled to be smitten with any structure that tickles your fancy and what fun would it be if we were all miniature clones of each other? Not very fun at all!

This side is cute, but what you can't see is that just to the left perched high atop the roof like two little birdies are two satellite dishes. Such a lovely accompaniment to the rest of the structure and another reason for a ticket! OK, I'm having too much fun being mean to this structure and I must stop now...I am so sorry for my rude behavior :0! Won't you please forgive me?

I do like the front door. It reminds me of an old Victorian lattice structure that belongs in the garden. I think they would look lovely with lace panels behind the glass and a little light reflecting from old old lamp.
Ah! The Home Depot outdoor lighting...
one more Ticket! I'm saying this with much laughter :)

I hope you've enjoyed this charming little dwelling and maybe tomorrow I'll post the giant Indian motif that's on the back side of the roof...maybe (smile).

My beloved spoke, and said to me:

“ Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away.
For lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove
Is heard in our land.
The fig tree puts forth her green figs,
And the vines with the tender grapes
Give a good smell.
Rise up, my love, my fair one,
And come away!

Song of Solomon 2: 10-13

Good morning Ladies and welcome to another "ABC's of the Word" hosted by our wonderful Pam of Grey Like Snuffie.

I'm trying desperately to stay in the Song of Songs as long as I can because I feel that many of us need to sense that gentle tugging on our hearts and know that while we are not perfect and continue to blow it, The Lord loves us so passionately. Not because of who we are or what we can do for Him, but because of who He is and what He HAS DONE for us.
I pray that each of you would experience that gentle nudging today and abandon yourselves to His love.

For more ABC's of the Word visit Pam at Grey Like Snuffie and help us stir up God's Word in our hearts.

Oh how I LoVe this adorable Cottage!

Sunday afternoon my sister-in-law, Donna stopped by as we were getting ready to leave for Long Beach to do some flying and dog walking. So she came along.

On our way home we drove through some of the old neighborhoods to show her some of the charming houses and one neighborhood in particular. The neighborhood is called Carol Park and is a collection of small Victorian Cottages and Craftsman Bungalows all within a tight little circle. The street is so narrow that two cars can't pass each other...I love that!
It just has a certain charm to it.

As we turned a corner this was what we saw.
My favorite cottage in all of California.
At least of the cottages I've seen :).

I drove past here several years ago when they first started roofing and I can't tell you how many times I've driven around looking for it, but was never able to find it...until Sunday.
Is this the most amazing roof you've ever seen? The roofer must live locally as there's another cottage not far from my house. And then there's another still, but I'll post about that later.

It looks like something straight out of a Faerie Tale.
I would love to know what the inside looks like, wouldn't you?

I left the pictures larger than usual so you can click on them to view the detail better.
Take a closer look at the peak of the roof. The detail work is so intricate.
