The Joys of re-doing a Room!

We're still working in our guest room and the progress is
v e r y s l o w!!!

By the two pictures above you can see why I often refer to this old cottage as
CRUMBLING COTTAGE
for it is indeed crumbling beneath us.

I had forgotten that this is what has been
lurking behind the wallpaper
and am thankful that it's now covered with wainscot.

A lovely repair job, don't you think? Me too!
In fact we've found some very
strange modifications over the years,
like the old comb someone used to shim up the back of a sink.
Maybe someone thought they were being creative...who knows!

Saturday after belly dance my friend Kathy and I headed to
Down Town Orange
where I found this cute little child's desk for $35.
I took one look at it and decided to bring it home.
It's sturdy and in near perfect condition.

I'm debating as to whether to paint it white or leave it as is.
I rather like the patina on it...what do you think?
Whatever I do, it's going to remain in the closet and become
part of my crafting area.

We're still fitting the moldings around the door and window frames
and then the painting will begin.
Painting on the wainscot that is.
Maybe in two more weeks I'll have all the furniture in
and it'll be ready for guests :).

Hey if you like it how it is then I say leave it :) Who needs the extra work! You certainly don't it sounds like you've been busy busy! But at least you took a shopping break! Yay!

All the best,
Allison

Hi Allison,
I think I may just leave it as is. I'm a girl who likes contrasts and not everything the same...we'll see.

Hey you had asked how in my other post how I feed my soul? I read my Bible (it's the best thing for a hungry spirit), putter in my garden, and day dream. Going to Disneyland helps too :D!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Oh my this is looking WONDERFUL! I don't know what you have in mind for the wall color, so no opinion on the desk other than I love it and what a great find! Whatever you decide will be lovely!

Hey Cori; I really love how your guest room is turning out. I can't wait to see all done. The desk you found is really great, I think you should leave it as is too. I love the color of the wood it looks great with the white wainscoting. But what ever you do it will look beautiful.

Our home in Washington always gives us surprises when we tear out a wall or try to update anything. Fun times. Whoa what a weekend. We really need to get together in person soon and just relax over tea and talk :0)
Heritage Square was fun...especially the freeway exit! The oldest freeway in L.A. does have it's interesting quirks! My favorite home was the green one. I'll post more later. It will be wonderful when they renovate the church!! Have a wonderful week. I've got to get to bed!!

Hi,

I loved your comment on "Fanciful Twist" about her cloud photos so much that I just had to hop over and tell you...

Nice blog, by the way...

Hi, Cori..your room is gonna be great! And, if you like the looks of the finish on the desk..leave it as is. It's beautiful...white, of course, would be fabulous, too.

Everything is coming together so beautifully! The desk is so pretty. I am not sure what to do. It is so nice as it is, but white furniture is lovely and romantic.

I look forward to seeing the finished room with great anticipation.

Take care.

Blessings,

Andrea

Hi Cori,
You have been busy. I love how everything is turning out.
Just looking at your crumbling wall brought back a shiver. As we tore off the old wallpaper alot of times the wall would come with it.
So glad that that is over.
Can't wait to see how your room will look.
Cute little desk. I am kind of fond of painting furniture but more and more I find that I appreciate the wood tones too. So I guess we will just find out what you do won't we.
