And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

Psalm 107:7

Nothing is more important at the beginning of a journey than that we should make a great start. To be in the right way we must follow the right Guide. It is not written, "they went in the right way," but "He led them." They could never have found it , much less continued in it, without the Lord's leading. The right way is always His way. And that is more than just an abstract concept; "the right way" mean the right way for me--what God is leading me to do today, in my daily life. "Show me thy ways O Lord."

We sometimes fail to know and follow God's guidance, because we allow too great a space to come between us and Him. The beginning of a new year is a good time to draw close to our Guide, to seek the guidance that keeps us not only safe, but happy and blessed.
With David I pray: "Good and upright is the Lord; therefore He instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble His way" (Ps. 25:8,9). Lord, keep me humble and teachable through this coming year!

Amen. A returning to my first love. And a returning to 'the ancient paths' is my hearts desire in this beginning of a New Year.
